Context
The hydrogen activities are organized under a subsidiary called “John Cockerill Hydrogen”. This entity takes advantage of:
- Its current position as the worldwide leader in the manufacturing of electrolysers with more than 25 years of experience
- Complete range of integrated solutions for hydrogen production
- Manufacturing capacities in US, Asia and Europe
- Integrated test laboratory for key components of electrolysers
In order to sustain its leadership position in this fast-moving market, John Cockerill requires its Hydrogen management teams to be constantly up to date on recent market developments (e.g. new government policies, competitor moves).
In order to reinforce our H2 technical team, John Cockerill Hydrogen is looking for a Norms and Certification Expert for its Hydrogen activity.
Nature and scope of the mission
The Norms and Certification Expert is part of the broader Design Office, collaborating with various disciplinary teams. He ensures mastery of the normative and certification aspects in line with the development strategy of our product. He supports proposal, product development and execution teams to define appropriated requirements to allow compliance with norms, codes, and regulation. He works in close coordination with other disciplines and project teams to ensure the success of product development and projects execution.
Main Responsibilities
As the Norm and Certification, your key duties will include, but are not limited to:
Leadership:
- Organize a normative and regulatory watch,
- Ensure the collective expertise continuous improvement, ensure the level of knowledge in the technical team about norms, regulation and certification is compliant with the business needs,
- Establish and maintain strong collaboration protocols and efficient interfaces with disciplines’ department, experts and project teams,
- Build and manage a network of third parties and partners, to support the business and technical team,
- Drive the adoption of a continuous improvement system, promoting quality, efficiency and productivity in line with business objectives.
Norms and certifications:
- Support the product development team in defining the normative and regulatory frameworks of our product,
- Support product development and project execution to define the action plan to ensure the compliance to norms and regulations, as well as ensure the required certification are achieved,
- Develop and maintain the technical knowledge related to norms and certification,
- Participate in relevant working groups to represent John Cockerill and defend its interests,
- Understand, analyze the impact, and drive action plan about:

- pressure vessel design and certification, mainly ASME, EN, PED, and other local regulations when required,
- functional system design and certification, mainly ASME, CE, and other local regulations when required,
- low voltage, high voltage and electromagnetic fields, mainly ASME, CE, IEC and other local regulations when required,
- Hazardous area regulations (ATEX, IECEx, … )

- Review the client requirements at proposal stage, to support the definition of the technical offer,
- Support product development and execution team, collaborate to define actions plan, participate to review of procedures and purchase specifications, as well as compliance matrix validation,
- Review supplier’s offers, and work in close collaboration with quality and Health Safety Environment departments,
- Support technical team for qualification, evaluation, and improvement plan of suppliers (engineering sub-contractors, equipment suppliers and manufacturers),
- Participate to New Product Introduction process gates and Project lifecycle gates.
Profile
The Norms and Certification expert is a senior engineer with significant experience in codes, norms and certification for product development dedicated to Industry for international projects. As such he/she shall have experience in the Oil & Gaz industry or Chemical Industry for international projects.
Prerequisite
- Education: Master’s degree in engineering (civil or industrial),
- Experience: At least 10-15 years’ experience in international complex normative and regulatory environment. Experience with hazardous area and in the Hydrogen sector are considered an asset.
Technical skills
- Expertise with pressure equipment and proficient in mechanical, electrical and instrumented control systems,
- Good knowledge of European market (directives, …), as well as US market,
- An experience with International regulations and specific codes & norms is an asset,
- An experience in product development and system engineering is an asset, as well as an experience with big international projects in Oil & gas or Chemical sectors,
- Fluent in English (reading, speaking, listening),
