Context
The hydrogen activities are organized under a subsidiary called “John Cockerill Hydrogen”. This entity takes advantage of:
- Its current position as the worldwide leader in the manufacturing of electrolysers with more than 25 years of experience
- Complete range of integrated solutions for hydrogen production
- Manufacturing capacities in US, Asia and Europe
- Integrated test laboratory for key components of electrolysers
In order to sustain its leadership position in this fast-moving market, John Cockerill requires its Hydrogen management teams to be constantly up to date on recent market developments (e.g. new government policies, competitor moves).
In order to reinforce our H2 technical team, John Cockerill Hydrogen is looking for a Head of Process Department for its Hydrogen activity.
Nature and scope of the mission
The Head of Process Department is responsible for managing manage a team of +/- 10 professional located in Belgium and India. The process department is part of the broader design office, collaborating with various disciplinary teams. The primary focus of the process team is to develop and optimize process control and safety of the electrolyzer system. The process team works in close coordination with other disciplines and project teams to ensure the success of the complex engineering project.
Main Responsibilities
As the Head of Process Department, your key duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Leadership & Team Management:
- Manage and lead the process teams both in Belgium (hierarchical link) and India (functional link with the Head of Process Department),
- Foster a collaborative and productive work environment to ensure high performance across both teams.
- Establish and maintain strong collaboration protocols and efficient interfaces with other disciplines and project teams,
- Build and manage a network of engineering sub-contractors to support the teams’s capacity and expertise,
- Drive the adoption of a continuous improvement system, promoting quality, efficiency and productivity in line with business objectives.
- Process Design & safety:
- Ensure reliable and compliant process design that align with international standards and industry good practices,
- Maintain process safety across electrolyzer systems, prioritizing safety in all design and operational aspects,
- Develop, implement and continuously improve internal design practices, standards, templates and process philosophies.
- Ensure thorough technical risk assessments are conducted and mitigated as part of the process design lifecycle,
- Oversee the application of internal standards, ensuring compliance with international codes, industry norms and contractual requirements.
Profile
The Head of Process Department is a senior process engineer with significant experience in process safety and team management. As such he/she shall have experience in the Oil & Gaz industry or Chemical Industry for international projects.
Prerequisite
- Education: Master’s degree in engineering (civil or industrial),
- Experience: At least 10-15 years’ experience in process control / safety, with an experience in team management. Experience with hazardous area is mandatory and experience in the Hydrogen sector is considered an asset. Field experience is a plus.
Technical skills
- Strong expertise in process control and process safety for complex industrial system,
- Knowledge of international codes and norms (mainly EN, ISO and ASME),
- Experience with simulation software (Symmetry, ASPEN, ..)
- Ability to develop and implement internal standards and process design documentation, including:
- Process design basis, Process flow diagram (PFD), Utility flow diagram (UFD) and Process & Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID)
- Interlock description, Cause & Effect Diagram
- Operating instructions and functional analyzes
- Mass and heat balance
- Material selection diagram (MSD)
- Attend and prepare HAZOPs
- Redact the Safety Requirement Specifications Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
- Make ATEX zoning calculations
- Hydraulic calculations and reports
- Flare load summary, Flare header and network sizing calculations
- Process data sheets for equipment/Packages
- Instrument Process data sheets (IPDS)
- Expertise in product and organization interfaces and understanding of how process engineering integrates with other project functions,
- Fluent in English (reading, speaking, listening),
- Comfortable working in a fast-growing, dynamic environment with international exposure.
