Job Summary

The role of the Structural Engineer is to carry out the engineering tasks of their technical discipline requested by the product lines of the entity. This ensures the necessary support for sales strategies, project realization, and development of innovative solutions for product lines in accordance with customer needs.

Their field of activity covers the structural design of product components, including:

  • Sizing of components
  • Preparation of calculations and technical specifications
  • Verification of mechanical plans.

Key Objectives and Responsibilities:

  • In support of technical proposals, project execution, and/or the development of innovative technical solutions, carry out the engineering tasks requested by the product lines of the entity.
  • Provide standards and design criteria for structural components of the HRSG product line and similar.
  • Review customer requirements/specifications during the proposal phase and identify any engineering issues to the Proposal Engineers.
  • Evaluate and develop design and/or methodology enhancements to the products to improve cost effectiveness, reduce manufacturing and/or construction cycles, improve product reliability and/or reduce cost.
  • Perform design analysis/calculations for structural/mechanical components, such as expansion joints, casing seals, maintenance equipment, lifting equipment and/or lifts.
  • Perform design analysis/calculations for boiler internal components, such as supports, lugs, baffles, grids operating at elevated temperature.
  • Perform design analysis/calculations of structural components to define foundation load, structure loading, member sizing, connection design and/or piping supports.
  • Carry out and optimize the design of the entity's products to the satisfaction of customers, in accordance with requested schedules and budgets.
  • Prepare technical documentation in compliance with local regulations, applicable codes, customer technical specifications, and internal standards.
  • Analyze and enforce customer technical specifications.
  • Support pre-project and project execution teams during technical clarification meetings with the customer.
  • Participate in design reviews and implement the action plan.
  • Define technical requirements per applicable codes that govern detail design, fabrication, and erection.
  • Establish calculations, procedures, and technical specifications in their engineering discipline.
  • Ensure control and smooth continuity of technical information at interfaces.
  • Provide technical assistance to the project teams during contract execution when required (for contract execution and aftermarket phases of the project).
  • Anticipate and prioritize activities with the group leader as required, to maintain project schedules, commitments and overall quality goals.
  • Assist in the development of peers.

Educational & Experience Requirements

  • B.S./M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or B.S./M.S. in Civil Engineering or B.S./M.S. in Structural Engineering
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years’ experience in structural design for large capital equipment with documented experience in boiler structural or mechanical design
  • Experience in utility or industrial boiler industry or HRSGs is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional analytical and organizational skills
  • Results oriented with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and timelines.
  • Proven ability to work with internal and external customers to understand their requirements.
  • Flexible/Adaptable
  • Ready to travel 15% or less of your time.
