Your role
As a Design Engineer within John Cockerill Energy, you will join the proposal team within the Design Engineering department in Belgium, working alongside Alexandre and the wider team. You will contribute to the thermal and mechanical dimensioning of heat recovery steam generators (HRSG), from the early proposal phase through to establishing the technical hypotheses that will later be developed during the project design phase.
You will act as a technical point of contact primarily for internal stakeholders (proposal engineers) and, occasionally, for external clients, supporting the development of technically sound proposals for numerous worldwide energy projects.
Your key responsibilities
- Perform the thermal and mechanical dimensioning of heat recovery steam generators (HRSG) and their components, in support of proposals and project execution
- Select materials and account for the associated thermodynamic behavior
- Prepare calculation notes and technical specifications for the equipment, establishing the base design that will be further developed during the design phase
- Verify mechanical drawings for completeness and compliance
- Support the proposal and project teams during technical clarification meetings with clients
- Participate in design reviews and follow up on the resulting action plans
- Produce the technical deliverables expected within your area of expertise (studies, analyses, reports, presentations, etc.)
- Ensure smooth and accurate continuity of technical information at project interfaces
- Contribute to solving technical issues encountered during project execution
- Take part in maintaining and continuously improving the team's technical expertise through technology watch, standards watch and lessons-learned processes
Your team
You will join a young, French-speaking and collaborative Design Engineering team based in Belgium (7 colleagues), working closely with colleagues in India (5 people) and the United States (2 people). The team is organized into two groups: project execution and proposal — the latter led by Alexandre, who will be your direct manager (N+1).
Alexandre's management style is characterised by high expectations regarding the quality, accuracy and reliability of the work delivered. At the same time, he gives team members the autonomy and flexibility to organise their work in the way that suits them best, trusting them to take ownership of their responsibilities and commitments. He values accountability, a proactive mindset and continuous improvement, while fostering a collaborative environment based on trust, open communication and mutual support. You will join a close-knit team where teamwork, knowledge sharing and a strong team spirit are key to success.
